Safe Rehabilitation of Drinking Water Lines

Mandals Aquaman PE L is a polyethylene (PE) based semi-structural liner solution designed as a “lead-free” solution for effective trenchless rehabilitation of service lines and drinking water mains using pulled-in-place pipe technology. The liner has a wide range of drinking water approvals, with excellent hydrolysis and microbiological resistance, and designed for a lifespan of more than 50 years.

A Smarter Way

Countries throughout the world suffer from contamination and loss of drinking water due to old pipes leaking and deteriorating. With an average of 26% water loss in Europe and 20% in North America, this is a rising problem that needs to be addressed. In the US alone, it is said that approximately every two minutes, a water main breaks, and the potential water loss is estimated to be six billion gallons annually.  We have developed Mandals Aquaman PE L specifically to address this problem and provide an easy-to-handle, effective solution to rehabilitate pipelines.

Cost-Efficient
Great Adhesion and Tensile Strength
Drinking Water Approved
Long Lifetime and Low Maintenance
Easy to Deploy and Store
Less Impact on the Environment
High Working Pressure
High Quality Materials

Explore Mandals Aquaman PE L

Mandals Aquaman PE L offers a long-lasting, cost-effective, high-quality stand-alone solution to rehabilitating leaking pipes. Mandals also offer a range of drinking water approved leak-free and pull-proof connectors specially designed for the hose with threaded or flanged connection to pipeline.

Mandals Aquaman PE L

With Mandals Aquaman PE L we offer a more sustainable solution for the rehabilitation of old pipelines with minimal disruption to traffic, pedestrians, and the environment in general, with an improved CO2 footprint and HSE performance. The liner is tested and approved for use with potable water, and is flexible in terms of the diameter variation of the host pipe, effortlessly passing sharp bends even at long section lengths.

Production and Design

Mandals Aquaman PE L is a semi-structural, stand-alone liner absorbing all internal pressure, not depending on host pipe other than as support from external forces.

Space between liner and host pipe (loose fit design) ensure the liner is unaffected by many external conditions (thermal pipe expansion, vibrations, pipe dislocation, etc). The liner will also dampen pressure hammer effects and reduce debris build-up.

High tensile strength and low elongation enable long installation lengths.

The “extrusion through the weave” production technology gives superior bonding between the cover and lining preventing delamination as well as firmly encapsulating the reinforcing polyester.

Lining and cover is polyethylene (PE) material with excellent hydrolysis resistance and resistance against microbiological attack. It is less flexible than the Aquaman L but better than alternative PE tubes.

The liner is leak-proof tested, packed, and delivered in a “U” -shape.

Installation Process

Before installation, a regular cleaning procedure is required for the host pipe and the condition is controlled by CCTV inspection.

The liner is pulled through the host pipe using a wire winch, e.g. and can be installed in pipelines with bends and pipe diameter variations. The number of bends (bend angle and R/D – ratio) will impact the installation’s maximum section lengths.

No steaming or other means of curing is required. Operating at maximum working pressure, the outer diameter of the liner is designed to be less than the inner diameter of the rehabilitated pipe (loose fit).

Product Specifications

Primary Uses & Applications

  • Safe trenchless rehabilitation of drinking water lines in accordance with ISO 11295:2022 and ISO11298-1:2018 Lining with inserted hoses

Color Options

  • Blue (standard)
  • Colorless (KTW-BWGL version)

In Compliance With

  • ISO 11295:2022 and ISO11298-1:2018 Lining with inserted hoses
  • UBA – Evaluation criteria for plastics and other organic materials in contact with drinking water (KTW/BWGL) of 2025-10-27

Lengths and Diameters

We offer a wide range of diameters and lengths to ensure optimal hydraulic flow capacity after rehabilitation of the pipeline. The range is available for pipes of DN20mm to DN350mm (steel pipes as reference), and even up to DN400 for PE pipelines (as PE pipes have smaller internal diameter than steel pipes for each DN). For selection of size, please check outer diameter of liner at system pressure (stated in datasheet) fitting internal diameter of host pipe.

  • DN20-DN40 can be delivered in lengths up to 2000m
  • DN80-DN150 can be delivered in lengths up to 600m
  • DN200-DN350 can be delivered in lengths up to 400m

Section lengths will depend on

  • Number of bends: More bend => Higher friction => Higher pull-force.

  • Bend angle and R/D ratio: Sharp bends (critical low R/D ratio) => Higher friction and greater risk of damage to the hose during Pull-in. The friction can be reduced with good lubrication (silicone oil/cooking oil etc.) on the hose. Small R/D ratio may increase risk of “kinking” of the hose within the bend and reduce flow capacity (please consult Mandals in case of sharp bends with R/D <5).

Operating Temperature

The maximum recommended operating temperature is +23°C (73°F), limited by drinking water approvals.

Lifetime Expectancy

Design service lifetime is over 50 years for drinking water applications, but will depend on several important factors such as proper and correct installation, condition of the existing pipe, dosage of and type of disinfectants used.

Chemicals and pH Range

The drinking water is normally stabilized as to chemical reactivity and microorganisms contents. The recommended pH range is 4-9.
